During the first game on the playchess server it was explicitly stated that "Fritz x" was playing. Not Fritz 8. The version playing is more recent than the commercially available version. It was stated due to people on the server analyzing with Fritz 8 were coming up with different moves than the one playing, and to clear it up an administrator stated it was a newer version recieved just days before the event.
