Subject: CompuChess question - computer chess history research

Hello folks,

This is my first post. I've done some searches in past messages and couldn't
find one that would answer the question I have here. I'm sorry if I missed
something and would thank anyone who would kindly point me in the right
direction.

I'm collecting dedicated computer chess to preserve them but I'm also trying to
get some details about each model and their history. One that's intriguing me is
the CompuChess. I have seen references that points to DataCash as the company
who built it in the 1970's but my model is from Staid Inc so I think Staid may
have sold the rights to DataCash or vice-versa. That's what I'm trying to find
out. Does anyone here have any reference on that?

Searching the web I even found some interesting information about a court case:
JS&A v. DataCash where they had a legal battle on copyright issues but that
didn't help me much, other
than to know that Datacash was the company manufacturing the CompuChess at that
time (1979).

Also, it seems that Fidelity Chess Challenger was the very first computer chess
available to the public 1976. Does anyone know how to accurately identify that
model (visually)?

Thanks for all your help!
