It has been my eternal wish to have a compilation of Greatest or Classic
Chess games in PGN. I think every chess player should play through the classic
games, not only for instruction but also for enjoyment.
I remember years ago, that Sargon III for PC had a collection of 150
annotated games, but there is no Sargon to ASCII or PGN conversion feature of
any sort. Chessmaster 3000 DOS also had a collection of 150 annotated classic
games that can be converted game by game to ASCII.
I worked on this conversion on my spare time for about 6 months. After a
lot of editing, and merging, I came up with a PGN version of CM3000 150
Classic games from 1790 to 1991. It is in one file. I would be willing to share
this this with anybody who wants them , but the unknown annotator of the games
might make a big deal about copyright. Also I dont know how to post a such a big
file on the Internet.
I also have converted Classic games from 1987 to 1992 that were added to
CM4000 (534 games). But they were in ASCII form, needs a lot of editing and are
not merged as one file (one game a file).
   I have CM6000 and they only added 55 games from 1993 to 1998. I still haven't
figured out how to convert them to PGN.
I read in a Chessbase pamplet years ago that there is a small database of
Classic games included in Chessbase database. I dont know if this is still true.
