Josh,

Connect 4 has been completely solved, and is a forced win for the player who
goes first. A program to play perfectly was developed in the Netherlands ( I
forget now the author, but it was at a University Computer Science/AI Dept).
However this is not a public program, but the technique was further improved and
used in a free program called Verlena which was developped in Italy and is free
to download. Again my memory fails me for the author, but the program is called
Velena, and it is really cool. It's written in C (not sure if C++ or C), and
the source is available for download as well. Try a web search, or else e-mail
me if you can't find it - I think I have a copy somewhere.

Good luck,
Roberto
