Ram has a seek time of 0 ns and an access time of 9 ns Disk has a seek time of 10,000 ns and an access time of 8,000 to 50,000 ns Do you really want to use disk in place of ram? It's not a pretty sight. Figure a slowdown factor of at least 2000, probably more. If your swap file is active, you need more ram. If your swap file is too small to load a program, you need more ram, not more swap file. Someone sold you a computer with 112 MB ram? That wasn't very nice. Go buy some more. 512 MB will be less than 100$
