Hi Alex,
Nice to see you here! And thanks for your posting. My own conclusion is that
there are 2 good options for Black:
A) 18... Bh1! 19.f3 Bh4! 20.Re4!? f5! 21.Kxh1 fxg4! 22.hxg4 unclear. Deep Fritz
8 prefers 20.Rxe8+, but IMO 20... Rxe8 21.Qb3 Qxb3 22.Nxb3 f5 23.Bh5 g6 is no
problem for Black.
B) 18... f5 19.Be2 Na5! 20.Qa4! c6! (found by Shredder 8). Now 21.c4 Qd8!
22.Kxg2 Bg5! (the point) Black seems to be doing OK, although progs still prefer
White. I am not sure, because White's king's position is rather shaky.
Anyway, ANT's 19... b5? seems to be wrong, White is better after the strong
20.a4!. F.e. 20... a6 21.axb5 axb5 22.Rb1! keeping the threats alive.
As Black I would go for variation A, with a roughly even position. But what
would have happened if Leko had played this against a non prepared Kramnik!? I
fear we never know :-).
Best wishes, Jeroen
