Subject: Why Pro Deo and CT were running under the CB GUI

Hi all,

A lot of people were (and are) wondering why Pro Deo and Chess Tiger run under
the CB GUI during the Dutch Open that ended last weekend. Time to explain why:
after working for 14 years on the Rebel and Tiger books, manually!, I finally
lost (better: got rid) of my good old bookeditor at the beginning of this year.
That was no big deal anyway, because developing a book in such a way has become
rather impossible. You can't keep up with the rapid developments in chess theory
by typing moves in your book.

Around 6 months ago I decided to make my own, new book using the CB editor. The
old book was transferred into this new book, lots of games were added and it
grew an astonishing 900 MB big! This is my new book, Noomen.ctg and both Pro Deo
and Chess Tiger were using it in the Dutch Open. It will not be commercially
available, it will only be used in tournaments by Chess Tiger or Pro Deo. It has
one big, big advantage: nobody can test against this book, so this will give me
an advantage in strong tournaments.

Improving the handmade book was no fun anymore, but this new book has given me a
lot of fun and I am very eager to improve it. This explains why Pro Deo and
Chess Tiger had to run under the CB GUI. Because without it, the book could not
be used!

Best wishes, Jeroen Noomen
