Subject: What is this "1 memory controller" thing?

I seem to not be up to date in PC hardware. Are there PCs with more than 1
memory controller? [not sarcastic] (if so, could you give me an example)

This brings me to another question for PC knowledgists. Is a dual CPU
motherboard automatically SMP or are there duals that are not SMP?
