Yes, but isn't that just foolish? Nowadays, a few plies of search don't take more than half a second. There is NO EXCUSE for not calculating at all from the CURRENT BOARD'S position, at the root of the search, for instance four plies. As it is, the Comp World Champion (!!) Junior makes SILLY BLUNDERS no beginner would make, with default settings. Why isn't that fixed SINCE YEARS? For example, use that insufficient eval not prior to ply depth 5. Easy, no? (Shaking my head... :)) Steve
