I'm pretty startled to tell the truth, and when testing some settings against an
opponent the default settings lost badly to, merely hope to equalize the score.
So far, my own testing has pretty much reproduced Kurt Utzinger's results using
the Nunn 2 sets (http://www.utzingerk.com/pro_deo.htm), and where he saw Pro Deo
lose 16.5 - 23.5 to Junior 8, my own testing showed a loss of 16 - 24. Much the
same in other words. Thus, equalizing the score would mean climbing back from a
-8 score, no mean feat.
List 5.12, a proven beast in slow time controls among the free engines, beat Pro
Deo 24.5 - 15.5. I have only tested once before against it and "improved" that
to a -5 score (17.5 - 22.5), so I didn't bother posting here. I am about
finished testing a new group of settings, and only wonder whether the result
might not be some kind of fluke. You see it didn't equalize, it is beating List
22.5 - 16.5 (+6) with one game to go, and which I cannot run just now. I've
looked at a few of the games, and can say that List doesn't seem to be suffering
from any bizarre problems, and confirms the moves it has played.
The match is played on an Athlon 2400XP+, Nunn 2 set, Ponder off, learning off,
100 MB hash for each (computer has 512 MB Ram). I also have played using the
Clear Hash = Always option in PD.
So, here are the settings I have used and a couple of the more impressive
attacking games from the match plus a couple of diagrams:

The very pretty 39.Rxd5! was played by PD, followed by 39...exd5 40.Ned7! This
interference threatens both Ne6+ and Rxe7+.
