Eager to pit the newly released Novag Star Ruby against another Dedicated Chess computer,and it being a dreary ,wet, cold Saturday here in NY i decided on the Excalibur GM.. GAME 30 Min: [Event "Rainy Saturday Blood Fest"] [Site "Steve's Inner Sanctum"] [Date "2004.10.30"] [White "Novag Star Ruby"] [Black "Excalibur Grandmaster"] [TimeControl "Game/30Min"] [Result "1-0"] [ECO "B10" Caro-Kaan"] 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4.c4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e6 6.Nf3 Be7 7.cxd5 Nxd5 8.Bd3 Bb4 9.Qc2 Nc6 10.O-O [D] r1bqk2r/pp3ppp/2n1p3/3n4/1b1P4/2NB1N2/PPQ2PPP/R1B2RK1 b kq - 0 10 so far all book..however the GM now decided on a novelty! Nf6!! ala blinkovowitz!(a class C player during the late 1940's, frequently seen playing in the Upper Volta league (Minsk, Russia) 11.Bg5!!! [D] r1bqk2r/pp3ppp/2n1pn2/6B1/1b1P4/2NB1N2/PPQ2PPP/R4RK1 b kq - 0 11 Star Ruby offers a poisoned pawn.. this is known as the Fried Liver attack(or is it the Liver And Onions on Rye attack??) ..11 Nxd4 the GM not up to date on current opening theory goes right ahead and snatches the pawn thinking it is now up +.53 12.Nxd4 Qxd4 13.Nb5! [D] r1b1k2r/pp3ppp/4pn2/1N4B1/1b1q4/3B4/PPQ2PPP/R4RK1 b kq - 0 13 GM'S evaluation went from +.53 to.. - oh geez) ..13 Qe5 14.Bxf6 Qxf6 15.Nc7+ [D] r1b1k2r/ppN2ppp/4pq2/8/1b6/3B4/PPQ2PPP/R4RK1 b kq - 0 15 winning the Rook..however there is still some hope the GM will trap the Knight and only be the Exchange down for the pawn it grabbed Ke7 16.Nxa8 Bd7 17.Nc7 Bd6 18.Rae1 Qh6 [D] 7r/ppNbkppp/3bp2q/8/8/3B4/PPQ2PPP/4RRK1 w - - 0 19 true to my own heart the GM tries a cheapo mate in one..i don't think so.. 19.h3 Rc8 20.Nd5+ Kf8 21.Nc3 [D] 2r2k2/pp1b1ppp/3bp2q/8/8/2NB3P/PPQ2PP1/4RRK1 b - - 0 21 and the Knight gets back safe as a fiddle.. Star Ruby has a Rook for the pawn.. ..21 Qf4 to its credit.. the GM tries one more cheapo mate..
