I think personalities is a cool feature to have anyway, but probably most users are only interested in tweaking the best engines to see if they can get closer to the top. Tuning up search and evaluation parameters can be a very time consuming and sometimes frustrating task, and it's more interesting to improve a 2700 elo engine to 2750 than say a 1800 engine to 2300, which still keeps it far from the top. I'm just guessing some others mind though, so I could be completely wrong! :-)
