2006 sees the 50th anniversary of the 1956 Dartmouth Conference at which the
concept of 'Artificial Intelligence' was created.

Arguably, the most achieved of the AI-aims defined there is the creation of
chess-engines playing at world-class level.

It would be a pity if SSDF were to cease operations before 2006 as its
league-table gives a good feel for the relative merits of various chess-engines,
and the progress still being achieved.

Jeff Sonas has collected data on man-machine games, and analysed the relative
positions of man and machine: search for 'Sonas' on the chessbase site.

http://home.interact.se/~w100107/welcome.htm provides a man-machine list of 483
games, listed in .pgn and in result to 2004-07-23.
