You'll never see a dedicated portable chess computer like this though, because the cost of the high-res touch-sensitive screen is too high. Your program is PocketChess. It is based on SCP, an old public domain program which is the forerunner of GnuChess. Its strength will be limited by its primitive eval function and the 17MHz processor in the Pilot. I've heard estimates of 1700, but I believe that is too high. The same search engine is incorporated into Deep Green, which runs on Apple Newton MessagePads. Deep Green running on a 160MHz MP2000 maintains an 1800 blitz rating on FICS. Ian
