>Simple they buy as collectors and not as chess players. For chess players it has >0% utilty as u rightly mention. No dedicated unit can play at the level of >Shredder8 on PentiumI even. > >It is just one way to waste money. not correct i am a collector and a chess player my rating is about 1900 the tasc units play at FIDE GM strenght they are rated 2300-2400 ELO certainly strong enough for me and stronger then 90% of FIDE RATED players stronger then 99.99999% of casual players the reason a CHESSPLAYER(and one who is not a collector) would pay BIG money for the Tasc computer is if they want a VERY STRONG opponent and they want to sit down in front of a beautiful wooden board and pieces (like in REAL chess) and not sit on front of a blinking PC screen with a mouse and 14 power plugs and surge protectors the Smartboards that are used with the Tasc computers can be connected to a PC much like the DGT boards and used with other chess programs i myself have no interest in this feature to date the Tasc computers are the HIGHEST rated dedicated units ever released for sale they were sold out the moment they were put on the market with a street price of between $1500-$2000 Tasc stopped making the computers because of a legal problem with the piece recognition system used by the Smart Boards if the ONLY thing that matters to you is playing strenght then of course you will go and spend $30(ignoring of course the cost of your PC )and you will get a software program rated near 2700 i guess you are a strong enough player that you would need an opponent greater then 2300 ..i certainly do not Steve
