principially it is able to play GC. But because of possible licensing problems,
I do not fully understand, the GC ability will not be opened in Smirf the next
time for public. Ed Trice has stated, that for the first year there would be no
problems, but I do not know what would happen a year later, when distributed
programs still would be able to automatic support GC. I cannot control any
user. But Smirf is able to handle all user edited positions basing on Capablanca
random chess, CRC. It is simply not supporting the user to create GC starting
positions automatically. But there are Capablanca, Carrera and Bird standard
opening positions supported within Smirf, and naturally a CRC randomizer.

It depends on programming progress and success in the GC championship. It does
not make much sense to develop a program, GUI and protocol for three single
users. You will notice that even discussing 10x8 chess will raise problems in
this forum, though Smirf is able to support 8x8 chess, normal, FRC, Shuffle,
with the same engine, which covers the 10x8 chess variants.
