Pondering is off by default I think. You can check it by clicking "Options ->
General...".

I'm not that familiar with the learning on all the engines myself. :) As far as
the books go, I chose the smallest book (as far as i know) for each engine that
is provided by the author.

This winboard package is meant to get winboard working in simple form. It would
greatly increase the size for me to include TBs and lots of engines.

Chessmaster is one of the more complicated engines to setup in winboard, but it
is doable :) Every time you restart your computer the opk number changes, so
you need to be comfortable moving files around and looking at log files. Let me
know and I'll try to write a quick quide for you.

It is easier to setup winboard engines in the 10th edition GUI. But I hear you
have to set up each game manually. I guess it is the same in winboard unless
you get a tournament manager for winboard(another somewhat complicated thing to
do).

I like using the arena interface for tournaments. It is simple to add engines
and lots of options for computer engine tournaments. You can also download
opening books. www.playwitharena.com
