Go up one level in this thread

 >I m sorry but all these ratings seem unrealistic.

quite reliable and accurate
Eric Hallsworth of Selective Search magazine(2nd link) is a world renown expert
in the field of computer chess and his magazine is respected the world over. as
is his ratings results.
he has been rating the Dedicated units and PC programs for well over 20 years.

the first list was culled from the SSDF lists as of 1995
i think the confusion here is that the Tasc unit was rleased in 1993 with the
only upgrade in 1995.
the Tasc has not been availalbe for sale now for perhaps 5-6 years

no significant play testing has been conducted since these dates
you do not see current PC programs on these lists because these are lists for
Dedicated units only

THE Tasc computerincorporate's DeKonings King program version 2.3 and 2.5(seen
in the Chessmaster program)running on a 68030 processor at either 30 Mhz or 40
mHZ

>Can u give me Rating list of Ded. units playing against Humans (rated, IM, GM level?)

THE SSDF lists for PC software chess programs are conducted as Computer.VS
Computer matches
the ratings you see for Fritz or Shredder etc.etc are all calculated this way
so were the old dedicated units
i dont know of a list of Dedicated units vs.humans
would be mildy interesting to see though.

>Then why u collect so many units and can never be satisfied with the strongest
one which has the most beautiful board ? From this I perceived that u r a
genuine collector! nothing wrong in that. But what utility it has for an
improving player?

i am a collector AND a player
the two are not mutally exclusive

actually the rating strength means nothing to me as far as collecting, only for
playing

we started off this thread with your comment that the Tasc is a complete waste
of money for a chess player
if this is the way you still feel then nothing i can write will change that

suffice is to say that chess players the world over greatly desire the unit
if Tasc had not gone out of business they would to this day still sell like hot
cakes
the collector in me is happy they are no longer produced..the chess player in me
is sad

Final Regards
Steve
