From the sound of it, it is a complete redesign. I have ordered a copy (which comes with Chess Assistant 8). I expect to watch how it plays, to see how much I enjoy it. I expect big things from Christophe. He has a much faster NPS now, and so he has more slack to play with than before. This is an engine that may challenge Shredder before long. Sometimes, a step sizeways (or even backwards) is necessary before we can take a big step forwards. I am something of a collector (I bought -- for instance -- Chess Genius, Maurice Ashley Chess, Deep Sjeng, Ruffian, etc. even though Shredder will turn them over his powerfull knee and give them a solid whipping). I don't simply buy everything. I was not impressed enough to get Patriot or Ktulu, but if they gain a few notches, I might try purchasing them. Probably I am atypical for a chess software buyer. But I like to watch any sort of strong engine play against the others. Sometimes, I might buy an engine just because I wanted to support the author.
