Just to add to the replies which already state a correct reason, there is one other that is important: you have more chance of the program working with your peripherals, given that Windows provides a Windows program with a much better device-independant view of the world. If you have drivers for it, then chances are that any Windows program. This is very different from the DOS view of the world, where a program would be expected to include support for specialized versions of some devices. Just my $0.02. Andy. P.S. Don't bother with "well program X doesn't work with device Y on my Windows PC" type replies, cos there would be 100 times more such replies if everyone ran DOS. IMHO.
