>Now my opinion, as a long-time CB8 user, is that Chess Assistant may be a >worthwhile competitor. Sorry but CB8 is not a CA competitor. Just use CA main big features and you will see that CB is years behind. Try BGA (and you will see what computer assisted analysis is) Try Classifiers structures and you can understand what chess data organization is. Try Talking to them for a question and you can see how helpful they are. >One issue on which I have no data, is how often it >crashes or corrupts data files. I have know CB8 to occasionally corrupt data >files. I am using CA for years and have never had such an issue >think they already have everything, but the chosen server is hardly acceptable, >in my opinion, to the English-speaking market. Why would I choose a chess web >server that doesn't even have an English help file? No matter how you try to >spin it, your arguement won't fly when there are a number of native English >chess servers out there. I have to sum this up as Convekta choosing the Russian >market over the English market, which is their choice and I'm sure the Russian >market is big, but it does exclude me. You are completly wrong here. Of course i complained about the russian orientation too BUT take the following in your consideration 1. The server is there for UNDER a year. 2. For a start they should have a market to talk to. ICC is US CB is GERMAN . It was logical to go to the russian one. 3. The development of the interface is EXTRAORDINARY. In such a litte time it has so much. THere are weaknesses but if you ask them they have plans to gradually cover the english speaking market too. FOr example i think at 25 NOV the lecture will be relayed in english too. This is mostly a testing phase. 4. The correspondace feature is of great marketing value and i think they will hold official events there. 5. After talking , i was told that the current state of the interface has only have of the features intented. And imagine that there are alot already. 6. Try talking to ICC or Playchess about improvements or bugs and see if they will ever respond or actually fullfill your wish. 7. I know its hard to see people talking around in a langruage that you dont understand but I see gradually server announcments on both russian and english. >Again, I think overall that CA8 may be worth trying, but certainly not for the >internet chess service. Chessbase beware. I would like also to tell you that i do not have any relationship with CA whatsoever and that there is not a single chess player that after i showed him what CA can do (and i mean GMs using CB) that where not impressed. They only small drawback is that users not well aquainted with computer sofware my have a little longer learning curve to use CA advanced features that from CB but CB doesnt have those features.
