Let me just appeal to you and everyone else to see it from the point of view of a moderator and then I'll shut up. I did not mean to offend you and if I did I apologize. The rest of this email is not directed at you or anyone in particular. It is directed to the whole membership: Imagine you are a moderator ... First of all, a moderator has the job to remove posts, that's what he was voted to do. Secondly, the job sucks because almost every time you remove a post the party who did the attacking or criticizing is himself deeply offended and thinks he was humiliated and of course is ALWAYS in the right. In the 3rd case you are in more trouble if you don't remove the post because the OTHER party is deeply offended that you didn't remove his enemies post and you are not doing your job either. And finally, you get to here the civil liberties evil dictator speech more times than you would care to count. About once every two months a moderator will get to watch someone in the group start a discussion on forming a committee or forum to "talk" about rules and regulations. This discussion will be started by a disgruntled member and usually one who has an attacking and critical nature (because thats why his own posts were removed.) It always is about how to control the moderators and is based on the assumption that the moderators are power hungry madmen. It's a real pleasant experience for the moderators to hear this too since they don't get paid anything for the job of bad guy, have full time jobs and families and I seriously doubt they have had military training to prepare them for the job of dictator. In every case I've seen so far the moderators came to the group because they were computer chess lovers just like everyone else and wanted to enjoy their hobby. Please consider these things the next time you go after their heads because your feelings may have been hurt. Although you can debate forever whether a post should be removed or not, every single one that was removed had SOMETHING in it that was harsh or critical in some way, so why not give them a break? What I see so far is very deep personal attacks against the moderators themselves. This is why I'm reacting so strongly, I see no justification for this whatsoever. In the very worst case (which I don't think this is) a marginally critical post was removed and a note sent to the offender that perhaps was not as tactfully worded as it should have been. For this criminal offense the very integrity of the moderators have been questioned PUBLICLY and viciously. I just can't imagine how anyone could believe that they deserve this. And I also cannot imagine that if this same treatment had been given to anyone else other than a moderator, they would still be holding a membership. Of course they won't take action against you for this (even though they should) because they know you will accuse them of using their "power" to slay their enemies. Naturally this too will get used against them as much as possible. - Don
