I also had problems running Gandalf 6 with Chessbase products (Chessbase 9, Fritz 8), but somewhat different than prevously reported. I use engines mainly for analysis rather than engine-engine matches, so the infinite analysis function must work. I installed the full version, and ran it under the Lokasoft interface, then copied the \g60 directory over to the Chessbase UCI engine folder. I started Fritz 8 and created the UCI engine. It loaded just fine. However, when I called the infinite analysis function, while it worked as expected in the middle of a game, when I went to move 1, there was no engine activity at all. Not until I got a few moves into the opening. It would present, what I would say was the next expected book move rather than engine analysis - and only one move of data, no variation, no alternate move (I use multvariation, 2 lines). OK - I now deleted all the files from the directory other than the executable, and low and behold, everything now works as expected, and from move 1. This is repeatable. I did note that the tablebase directory was incorrect in the ini file, but fixing that did nothing to help matters. Only deletion of all the files. One quick question here - since the book is no longer where the engine can find it, will it use the Chessbase book? And if I did have the Gandalf book in the directory as well as, say PowerBook 2004, which book would Gandalf use? Seems I should know this answer, but I do not. Thanks for any input, and/or comments.
