Steve,

I agree ... that's exactly why, for my handheld chess needs, I have gone to Palm
and Pocket PC. With these, I am able to get state-of-the-art programs like
Pocket Fritz 2 (really Shredder), Hiarcs 9, Chess Tiger 15, SOS, Crafty, etc,
with more to come, I'm sure.

So, with these programs, a hi-res color display that you can see in the dark,
and much faster processors than the old dedicated units ... who wants the old
units? (Other than collectors, of course, but that's another story altogether.)

I play all the time against recent, modern programs with big books and fast
processors in the subway on the way to work. With new, fast, high-mhz
processors, these programs are *killers*, unless you're a GM. Unless you're
really very good, you have to dummy them down a bit to have a chance ... they're
already more than you need for actual play. And for analysis, we have our many
beloved engines and our rocket-fast PCs. I even have a battery-extender on the
back of my Tungsten which perhaps triples the battery life and is fully
rechargeable, eliminating the need for batteries and adapters (which the old
units need). So, my advice is to just forget that crap they are trying to pawn
off on us now ... we already have what we need! As already pointed out, they
are just trying to re-market old crap to separate us from our money! Get a Palm
or Pocket PC and never look back! Enjoy!
