Steen - maybe you can help with this? Under what conditions is the gandalf60wb.res file used? Only when called as a Winboard engine? Is it looked at, for example in the Arena or Shredder interface when installed as a UCI engine? How about the gandalf.ini file - when is that consulted? It seems to be widely not known how to assure that Gandalf is using it's own opening book. You explain it well for the Chessbase GUI, but maybe some more insight by you on the Arena and Shredder Classic interface would be appreciated. Last - can you disrupt the Lokasoft configuration by modifying either the .res or .ini file? Sorry if these questions reveal that I am a novice in this area.
