What you write is true to me Steve. The clincher is the dreaded mouseslip.
Although we might not wish to admit it this probably happens as much to our
human opponents as ourselves. But the machine never mouseslips. What percentage
of blitz games are lost on mouseslips? 5%? 10%?

The young are used to using screens and mice for various tasks which do not come
as 'naturally' to us slightly older folk. Perhaps the more over-the-board play
you have enjoyed over the years the harder it is to maintain a similar standard
on a screen. Apart from the aesthetic and competitive motivation aspects.

Personally I suspect that the lack of perspective/depth helps me to miss moves
which are crystal clear on a board.

Some data would be helpful to test these opinions.

Steve to change the subject - it is in the post.
