Thanks Andrew for a concrete suggestion and sharing your similar experiences.
Unfortunately the Tools/Factory reset option didnt work. However, I recently
discovered that on my notebook PC ..the import games function works like a
charm. Why it wont work on my desktop is a mystery to me since both of the
systems are configured similarly. Personally I think Chessbase has an
intermittent software bug but thats just my opinion. For now I can use my
notebook. Thanks again
