It is possible that it is a mistake to use a book of common lines that is not
big enough and if you choose to use a book that is not big enough then it is
better to take the opponent out of book earlier(at least with white it is
possible to do it with equal position).

knowing half of the theory and using it is sometimes worse than knowing nothing.

I read that one of the participants of the Israeli women championship learned it
when she remembered some moves from the sicilian defense that she learned for
the championship but did not know how to continue and she admitted that it was
better for her not to use that line.
