Many engines do it. > >Matthias. frequently. I do not think that many engines do it. Based on the level of your engine maybe it is one of it's problems. Maybe if you limit it to 40 plies by returning the static evaluation after 40 plies you will see improvement in playing strength. Today the maximal depth of movei is 100 plies but I guess that the difference in playing strength will be small if I limit movei to 40 plies and I will be surprised if it is going to be weaker by more than 30 elo. Maybe it is even going to be stronger thanks to avoiding some stupid extensions. Uri
