Hi Alex >YE GAWD!! Here I am a man with literally Hundreds of dollars to spend!! I LOVE >chess!! BUT! Where o where dooo I spend my money??I have all the versions of >the chessbase programs! i feel you pain the problem you have is that you are stuck in the never ending catch 22 myre of PC Chess Engines Fritz Shredder Cmaster etcetc as soon as you load up the newest version of say Fritz and finally get it running on your PC along comes an update..and you must dance the upgrade dance. then,as soon as you have the upgrade working in 12 different GUI'S then along comes a new version of say Shredder which is reportedly 2.4 elo stronger.. so off you go with the new version of Shredder and all 12 different GUI'S.. now you are all set to go..no wait..hello! new version of Shredder is out ..3/4 of one elo point better!! load up them 12 GUI'S!! ON AND ON.. AD NAUSEUM and as we all know, the very first version of Fritz or Shredder or even Cmaster 2100 can beat probably 99.9% of every chess player that ever lived you never want to play these engines a game because you get crushed in the first 20 moves so to justify your purchase you play one engine against another and sit idly by as the computer does the thinking and you watch like a spectator your chess never improves..only your ability to install the program into 12 Gui's what you need my man is a DEDICATED chess computer you will never worry about upgrading you will play the machine until you can beat it..increase the level..until you can beat it and when you are done you will be 200-300 Elo points stronger you will sit down in front of a REAL board with REAL pieces and play chess you will SLAM pieces in Blitz GLIDE pieces in time pressure TOSS the pieces about the room if you lose you will be playing REAL CHESS and you will improve THIS is the way to go for your several hundred dollars.. may i suggest you browse around in this lovely little store where most of the chess computers available for sale are well within your spending limit: http://www.chessusa.com/cgi-bin/store.cgi?page=8.html Best Steve
