Just a misunderstanding, I am sure. I do not play against the engine in this
case. I am analyzing the position given. If I am in the Chessbase interface, I
am almost always displaying the top 2 moves from the engine. In this
configuration (which i call multivariation) Gandalf 6 does not find the mate,
ever. Now, if I set the analysis window to display only the top move, it gets
the mate immediately! This happens if I am in the multivariation mode and use
the "-" key to reduce it to one move, or if I start out with the engine in
single variation mode.
