My thoughts tend to be that tactics will beat out position understanding, but that day is not here yet, although maybe damn close. Two years ago when i asked this question i could get the odd draw in a 40 in 2 hour game against all the commercial engines. However, today on my AMD 3400+ forget it! I get destroyed as soon as i leave book. Some would argue that the position play of the engines have also improved in 2 years and I would agree to this. In my case however, i fall prey to some deep tactic that the machine baited me into. But still i struggle on.
