I don't know what Linux distro you are using but SuSE comes with Knights, Xboard
(crafty and gnuchess).  Knights has it's own GUI and you set the time control.
Xboard allows you to set the time control also, but the crafty engine will
generally be too strong regardless of the time.  You may have a chance with
gnuchess.
