Could you please seriously re-consider the way you are handling the Arena
website. I am absolutely sure I am not the only one that feels the password
protection of forums and and various downloads is ridiculous. As someone said in
another thread it is easier trying to hack into the DOD mainframe !!
If Chess Arena is really a freeware program in the true spirit of freeware why
all the password melodrama ? Especially as on more than one occasion you
complained about all the work the passwords have created for you. For example my
password for the forums no longer works, whether it is a problem at my end or
your end I really do not know and there is no way to automatically retrieve
passwords like there is on virtually every other password protected site.
Just do what Prof Hyatt does with Crafty, or Dann Corbitt does with his vast
collection of Chess programs. Simply make the main Arena installer file
available via anonymous FTP. I am pretty certain I know how much administration
effort that would require. Zero !!
I dont see any reason why you also couldn't make the beta version available for
download.
Just think of all that extra password hassle you would avoid.
Despite Chess Arena being my favourite Chess program of all time, I really
cannot be bothered anymore trying to sort out all the passwords to get back on
the forum and to download the latest beta version.
Does anyone else agree that the way the website is going is reflecting badly on
the Chess Arena program itself ? Maybe Martin Blume is reading this and it would
be nice to think he could do something to sort it out.
