Subject: Problems with Arena 1.0

Author: Dan Honeycutt

A while back I upgraded to Arena 1.0 Build 1650. I started noticing occasional
time losses. Had it just been Bruja I would have figured I broke something, but
the same was happening with other engines which I know have good time
management. On investigating, the problem seems to be with Arena. Following
are the last 2 moves of a Bruja vs Bruja game and the logs of both:

[Event "Std_opp"]
[Site "DHONEYCUTT"]
[Date "2004.12.09"]
[Round "9"]
[White "Bruja_x0"]
[Black "Bruja_x1"]
[Result "0-1"]
[ECO "C39"]
[Opening "KGA"]
[Time "11:46:35"]
[Variation "Kieseritsky, Berlin Defence"]
[TimeControl "40/240:40/240:40/240"]
[Termination "time forfeit"]
[PlyCount "79"]
[WhiteType "program"]
[BlackType "program"]

================== Bruja_x1 (Black) log

Going back and forth between the two logs shows:
Move 38W: time left white=22.5 sec, black=31.92 sec. white moves b4c5
Move 38B: time left white=15.48 sec, black=31.92 sec. black moves b6b5
Move 39W: time left white=15.48 sec, black=19.88 sec. white moves c8e8
Move 39B: time left white=7.73 sec, black=19.88 sec. black moves e6f7

Now white, who still has nearly 8 seconds on his clock, never receives blacks
move e6f7. The next thing to come in is the 0-1 result.

Anyone else having similar problems or can think of something I might have done
wrong? Hardware is Athlon XP2000+, 1.66GHz, 512MB. OS is XP Pro 2002 Service
Pack 1.

Thanks

Dan H.
