this is a bug, probably caused by your machine having a slow disk (or else
trying to use tablebases from a CD.  What happens is that when the NPS value
drops below a certain threshold, crafty starts throttling the depth at which
it probes the tablebases.  And on slow disks, it is possible that it can really
reduce the depth.  So far that it might not even probe at depth=2 for one
iteration.  And if that iteration is the _last_ iteration because it is in a
tablebase at the root, it won't probe at all, but still will exit the search
after 2 plies.

I found this and have fixed it in 16.4, but am still working on the 'throttle'
code as it is reacting too sluggishly...
