That's not my understanding of it at all. Besides you haven't even begun to
answer your own problem. If the idea of open source software is to create a
common base from which to develop and the customize to generate revenue, then
who creates this 'base' software, and what is their financial compensation
(presuming the idea is all about money according to your statement)? Do the
programmers of this base get some form of royalty on the customized versions? If
they don't, then your stated understanding doesn't fit the model of reality.

Is the concept of generosity really so incomprehensible to you? The last phrase
suggests it is, but perhaps I am misunderstanding. The main post in CSS wasn't
much of an improvement in which you claim that people who donate their efforts
are guilty of dumping, being naive, or serving their vanity. My eyes quite
honestly popped out when I read that.
