Subject: [OT] An open letter to Martin Blume

This is a copy of the email that I just sent Martin:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Martin,

I have tried dealing with Frank and Chris on the matter and you can see the
situation it has lead to. We now have three very stubbourn individuals butting
heads and making a pure mess out of what can be an easily resovled situation. I
am sorry I have not contact you, but until now I did not have a way of
contacting you. I found this email address in a post you did at the CCC.

This whole situation is rediculous and I admit that. Freely.

I tried to go the correct route and ask for permission to offer Arena and it's
partner engines to be available from my website. That lead to my account being
banned from the forums. Now I am completely filtered from viewing the site.

So I took another route and offered it on my site based on your "non-commercial"
license. I did not offer a beta version, or a test version. I offered the last
publically known final version being 1.0. I didn't even modify the name of the
file. Everything is intact and the same as it would be on your site.

So I am _asking_ for permission from you.. the author of the program.

I do not see the problem with this at all. You are gaining a stable, free
alternate download source for your program. You are also gaining a source that
uses your program personally. I answer questions if I can when emailed to me,
and if I can't I direct them to your site.

I happen to think you have a very fine program in Arena. I was asked if I could
host it on my site, and when asked if I could I was treated with utter
disrespect.

So please grant me permission to host Arena and the situation can resolve
itself. We can then get back to what is important... Chess.

Peter Skinner
