Since one year I cann't see bigger jumpings and this is perhaps a reasons that the systems today are "not" very expensive. After all what I read, booth companys have great ideas for the feature. I am sure the best way is ... 01. To search a not exensive update to Athlon or PIV (I like Dual systems for chess) if you like ... :-) and then ... 02. To wait of clear faster processors. I updated three of my machines for not many money. Athlon 3.2+ for an example with a good MSI board isn't expensive. Pentium IV 3.4 / 3.6 and AMD 64 isn't a big difference. I like more the Intel processors but I saw that the latest Athlon processors are really very good for computer chess. Good examples: Patriot is on Athlon proceessor clearly better, I believe around 50-60 ELO. King of Kings is on Pentium processor better. After all ... The most interesting chess system is since Pentium III a dual system. Much more interesting to look after a dual system. Believe me, you will have much more fun with your hobby. Best Frank
