I agree with you, if one takes the time to study and analyze the games which one plays against the computer, one can learn the strong and weak points of a chess engine. It is hard work, and life is hard too. I know the strengths and weaknesses of my chess engines, but it took me losing a lot of games before I figured out how to beat them, however, that is not the purpose I use my chess engines nowadays, I use them to help me analyze chess positions and as a sparring patner to further my understanding of my openings.
