If you use floating point anywhere in your search, you can get different results depending on your floating point options (e.g. extended precision bits can get shaved off the registers if an IRQ happens, for instance.) Also, the compiler might do some constant folding and subexpression elimination in release mode, but not in debug mode. Again, this should only make a difference if floating point is used. If you get a different count for perft <n> (as opposed to search), then something is broken for sure.
