Actually Clive the idea of having more features
and options is very good.
And I agree that even the strength of most existing
dedicated chess computers today is enough to beat
any amature player. So really why more strength?
I know I cannot beat the Mephisto Mondial Xl and this
machine has been around since the 80's.
And you are right when you say we end up playing
machine against machine.
An option I liked is on the Fidelity Mach 111.
It can tell you how much time will be required before
it makes it's move.( Gives one the time to get a glass
of wine)
I can think of many more. But yes more features and
options before increased strength.
