The two best CPUs for chess would be the AMD 64 and Intel Pentium M (a.k.a. Centrino). The P4 doen't even qualify for the race. But a Pentium M desktop system is hideously expensive both the CPU and the mobo. As for stability and reliability I would say that AMD has the edge as long as you get a first or second tier mobo, cooling and PSU. MvH Dan Andersson
