while it is true that P 4 is not a competitor to athlon when it comes to chess, there are other things that some people may find important. a couple points: 1. for most people there is not much difference whether 1 million positions per second analyzed or 1.5 millions. 2. athlon processors can be noisy. I have dual xp 1800 at work and when I switch it off I realize that I have been working next to an airplane turbine.
