I'm no computer expert by any means but any dedicated computer that doesn't use
selective search would be at a tremendous disadvantage against one that does. A
super computer would be different because it is so fast and can go through
enough ply without missing a single tactic. As an example in the following test
I have put together for dedicated units notice how the Designer 2100 Display
(6Mhz) cannot solve ANY of the problems in a reasonable time but I dare say a
dedicated unit with selective search would do a great deal better.
Designer 2100 Display (6Mhz)
1. 7 hr 45 min (could not solve)
2. 4 hours
3. 3 hr 20 min
4. 4 hr 5 min
5. 1 hr 21 min
6. 45 min 30 sec
7. 9 hours (could not solve)
8. 32 min 23 sec
9. 1 hr 42 min
10. 10 hr 30 min (could not solve)
