Hi Olivier: If the GUI allows the engine to overstep with tournament time controls my opinion is that is a bug in the GUI. The GUI should be the TD's right hand man and should enforce whatever time controls the TD has set. For the engine that uses too much time it could be a bug or, more likely, it's just poor time management. However, it could be a feature - the engine found itself in a difficult game and spent too much time to make the control. If an engine suddenly sees a big drop in the score I don't fault it for spending a lot of time even at the risk of overstepping. If it can't find a way to better the drop in score it's probably going to lose anyway. Dan H.
