Hard drive:
80 GB would be fine, but for the small additional cost I'd get a 120 to
future-proof yourself a little

Video card
I am running Radeon 9000 and Radeon 9200 in my chess boxes. You don't need a
high end card at all for just playing chess and watching DVDs. In the NVidia
range, the budget end such as FX5200 would be fine. This assumes you don't want
to play games - although it will certainly play many titles at lower resolutions
and detail.

Memory
I wouldn't go less than 1 gig. If you're running engine matches and want a
decent size for the hashtables, 512MB may not be enough. No need to get
expensive low latency stuff, standard Corsair/Geil/OCZ value RAM or perhaps
Crucial. Athlon64 boards can be picky about the brand of memory, so better to
buy the motherboard and memory from the same supplier so that if you strike
problems you can swap the memory for something else

Hope that helps
