From what I understand by just reading Volker's post:

1) Arena team complained to Volker's ISP (for whatever reason).

2) Volker's ISP has warned Volker that if Volker ever access the Arena webpage
(even by mistake), they will cancel his contract.

- This is a serious matter for someone whose internet activity is not limited to
browsing the web. -

3) The "apology" thing is personal, and goes a long way other than this
incident.

3) Volker only banned the mention of the webpage, which will automatically get
censored by script; for his own safety. Trying to avoid being kicked out of his
own ISP, "Until the details have been clarified"; meaning temporary.

4) Members from Arena team being banned seems reasonable; and it seems to apply
until they apologize to him.

Here is something to think about: He is not going to allow people to post in the
forum, on which he spends his time, energy and money to run; who is trying to get
gim banned by his ISP, just for visting their webpage. If you ask me, I probably
would have done the same thing.

5) What business does "Arena" have in "Winboard" forum? Winboard forum is not a
general forum like "Computer Chess Club", it's a specific forum for winboard and
things that are related to it.

6) Discussion of Arena doesn't seem to be banned, but mention of that webpage
for Volker's own safety, is banned.
He mentioned, "To avoid further trouble I made the following decisions."

7) I think you are overreacting.
