My guess is that most people who buy a strong chess computer like the Mephisto Master won't care much about the "fun levels". You make an interesting point about ChessMaster 9K. I also have ChessMaster 9K, as well as Fritz 8 and Chess Tiger for the Palm. As a computer SysAdmin I spend far too many hours in front of a monitor, so I was really looking for a table top machine to play against. I have now returned the Mephisto, and bought an Excalibur Grandmaster, which is a weaker program, but has a full size auto-sensory board to play on.
