Maybe a loose connection... I had that happen once - strange things happened whenever I jiggled the power connector to the hard drive. After 4 years the connectors may get corroded. Usually reseating them fixes it, but they could stand cleaning with some gunk from Radio Shack. All's well that ends well, in the meantime, backup whatever you don't want to lose!? WP
